Be Amazing

One of my favorite bloggers is training to run a marathon. Despite not being much of a runner. And raising triplets and a singleton. You could argue that signing up for the marathon is proof those kids drove her insane, but I admire her deeply for taking on this massive undertaking. She, her husband, and others are running the San Diego Rock N' Roll marathon, to benefit the The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society on Sunday, May 31, 2009.

Take a look at her blog if you want some good reading, perspective on parenting, or to help a good cause. There are even giveaway raffles for donors.

Changes in Old Navy's Return Policy

FYI in case this slipped by you like it slipped by me.

Old Navy has changed their return policy for online orders. It used to be that when you returned items that were not eligible for in-store return, ON provided a free return shipping label. Sometime this month, that changed. It now costs $6 to use their label to return items. Or you can ship it yourself, which saved me a dollar this week.

I've been disappointed by the shrinking maternity department at one of the few Old Navy stores that carries maternity. They have so few styles now, it's usually not worth the trip. But I have been happy with the online-only styles ON offers. The problem is, it's not as easy as taking things to the fitting room and finding out if they work or not. So I've made several orders during this pregnancy and end up returning something each time.  Maternity items are mail order return only. I miss being able to return them to any ON store like I could two years ago.

I'm happy with the shorts and tankini I recently purchased from them, but not as happy that I had to pay $5 to return the things that didn't fit or were not at all to my liking.

One more thing to watch for... you used to have 90 days to return oldnavy.com orders. Now it's 45. I haven't shopped in store recently, but they probably shortened the return period there as well.

Deal a Day sites

There are several sites I check often to see what is selling that day.

Woot.com has a wide variety of items. They have a limited quantity, and the item is no longer for sale when it sells out or a new item is listed the next day. (With the exception of woot-offs, which are a whole 'nother post.) Woot lists new items at midnight central time, or 1 a.m. Eastern time. Check out their sister site shirt.woot.com for eclectic designs, also starting at 1 a.m. my time.

If you log onto woot and see something you like, and the "I want one" button is bouncing, that means less than 10% are left...so hurry up and buy it before it's gone! Shipping is always $5, whether you purchase one item or the max of three. You're only allowed one transaction per day per account per site, so if you want two or three, make sure to select the desired quantity before you check out.

I've purchased everything from camera memory cards to bluetooth headsets to roadside safety kits to screaming flying monkeys from woot.

RetailKiller.com is similar to woot but friendlier to morning people. They list new items at 6 a.m. Eastern time. I don't shop them as much as woot but have purchased from them.

And for the parents, grandparents, etc., a site I need to start checking daily is BabySteals.com. They have different deals every day, starting at 9 a.m. MST...so 11 a.m. for those of us in the Eastern time zone. I usually don't find out about their deals until something I want is sold out...so definitely something to start checking more often!

More on coupons.com

I'm thrilled at my savings so far with coupons printed from coupons.com. I had no problems using them at Target today...where I saved a LOT of money with coupons, store specials, and a 10% shopping day earned with my RedCard. Others checking out at the same time were impressed!

The only snag I've found so far is with the coupon printer app. There is a mac coupon printer, but it doesn't actually work on my mac. The troubleshooting instructions tell me how to change the default printer on a PC. Not too helpful... I did get it sort of working, I thought, then it told me I couldn't fax the coupons. Maybe the problem is my printer is an all-in-one with a fax function that I've never used.

I installed the coupon printer on hubby's old PC laptop and it worked just fine.

If all worked well, there is a link to coupons.com in this post, and if all goes well, I might get a small kickback when you go through my blog to print coupons. You can also use the vertical banner on the right side of this page that keeps taunting me with those Huggies coupons. I haven't tried printing them multiple times, so I'm not sure if it'd work. I was very happy to save $5 on Gentle Care newborn diapers and $3 on Natural Fit toddler diapers with one of each coupon.

Early signs of spring

A blustery day and a girl who thinks pockets are the greatest thing ever.

And the reason we don't go for more walks together. Walking away from the house is fine. Walking back provokes laying on the ground and/or crawling tantrums.

Coupon Savings

I've just discovered CouponMom.com. They linked me to coupons.com. The coupons I printed out today included ones for $5 and $3 off Huggies! (Edited to add: I had no problem using several of the coupons I printed at Target.)

Did you know you can combine store coupons and manufacturer's coupons on the same item at Target? I love it when I get a coupon mailer from them, because I almost always have manufacturer's coupons for the same items and it adds up to some really nice savings!
